crass - nagasaki nightmare 7 inch england 1980

'' big a little a bouncing b. the system might have got you but i wont get me. '' one of the best starts to a record there is. if crass ever made a straight forward punk song with easy to understand lyrics laid out in a way to bring in more people and younger people to this way of thinking. then this here record is that. theyre known for being extremly difficult to listen to and understand. hence the big logos and statements. this tune 'big a little a' is the logos. the b-side 'nagasaki nightmare' tends to lean on the other side, but in that. its extremly catchy. listening to the record to think of something to say, ive actually listened to nagasaki nightmode three times. forgot how good it was. surprisingly well played and laid out for a bunch of hippies that said they couldnt play. 'big a little a' though. i cant remember a time from around i was 14 or 15 that i havent had a copy of this single. sometimes i forget if i have it when i see it out hunting, so i buy it again. at times ive had 4 copies. i think its a mental note i made to myself at sometime or other that i must always have a copy of this or ill burst. as a boy, or almost man, the lyrics to punk ment loads to me and they still do. crass had some of the best going. very deep, clear, thought out, straight forward, confussing, daft. superb in fact. looking at the lyrics on this, its surprising how 31 years on how relevant they still are.

the first three line there are so relevant to today that its kinda frightening to read that someone wrote it 31 years ago. or is it just that its frightening to think that we still have the same problems and the same kind of people controlling us. there is more ''open freedom'' for the individual these days than when even i was younger. more freedom of travel and education. so why is it that more people now choose addictions and death and television and voting extreme right wing than when i was younger. we didnt have cameras on the streets, stop and search laws, bannings of people gathering, curfews either when i was younger. the police now have a right to arrest you for no reason and hold you, the irish will always say that they always had this right. now though its used on all of the general public and not just the irish. the police can take your passport and make you call in at a police station at a time THEY want. for the sole reason of knowing someone. remember that right to silence you used to have when being stopped by the police.? well, we dont have it anymore. as they said when i was a lad.... '' You have the right to remain silent, but anything you do say will be taken down and may be used in evidence. '' and as they now say.... '' You do not have to say anything, but it may harm your defence if you do not mention, when questioned, something which you later rely on in court. Anything you do say may be given in evidence. '' you know what that means? there is no democracy anymore, if there ever was. proof of this is the old ''innocent before proven guilty''. unfortunately its now, im sad to say, ''guilty untill proven innocent.'' so do we really have more freedom? the television says so, so does oprah and fox news and the sun, so does barrack and whoever the fuck rules over the uk and that cunt reinfeld. they all do. so why do they keep building more prisons and why is there more security companies. tell me something. why does a football fan get 2 years for punching someone once and a child rapist gets 3 months on a second offence. and why do white movie stars get let off with sexual abuse and violence against women and bank robbers get 25 years?
